[El Jardín] has been a
great learning experience for both my child and us as parents. We
enjoyed the positive discipline seminars. We’ve been putting those
skills to use. Our family seems to be a lot happier.

[El Jardín] has shown us how
to communicate better as a couple. Richard does the work day, and I do
the evening meetings, so it is important for us to communicate to each
other about our children. My children made a lot of progress with their
Spanish in the second year of the program. I hear them speaking Spanish
at home now.

| I have learned the
importance of parents participating in their children’s school. I’ve
also learned a lot from the other parents. I’ve learned a great deal
about the ways in which children learn, how to take better care of
children, and nutrition. From the kids, I’ve learned to listen better.
By being involved in this school and taking the initiative when I am
here, I set a good example to my children of leadership and helping
others. Through the opportunity of helping and encouraging other
fathers and mothers in the program, I have come to realize that I have
something to offer others, that I can teach them things and help them,
and that they appreciate my help. Carlos Flores, Anthony & Dante's dad |

I appreciated
getting to know the other parents in the program and feeling real
connections between our families. I have learned lots of things from the
other parents as well as the teacher. I loved all of the presentations
we had – positive discipline, conflict resolution, language development.
Our family
has met many new families and expanded the community we have in
Watsonville. We all use and understand more Spanish than we did at the
beginning of the program. Through presentations at seminar and evening
meetings we have seen alternative solutions for problems and conflicts
that arise when parenting. |

I’ve learned the importance
of supporting each other as parents, i.e. sharing parenting tips re:
discipline, play/games, places to go, etc… All the advice received has
benefitted my family. The work atmosphere of this program is excellent for both the children and the parents. The diversity of elements incorporated by the teacher keeps the children interested in learning and exploring new areas. The teacher motivates parents to participate by allowing them to express their doubts, experiences, and opinions. Blanca Hill, Madeleine’s mom This program considers each child’s needs and development. The teacher is good about showing parents how to teach/supervise. The program has helped me understand the great capacity children have for learning, and if we give them the tools their success will be greater. It has also been very important because I have learned to be more patient and find simpler ways to manage children’s behavior. Cyntia Vasquez-Acosta, Eric's mom The readings and discussions and sharing of opinions about themes that are shared in the seminars are strong points of this program. Nancy Bustos, Camilo’s mom |
