“January Kiss”

January sun

Warming heart and soul.

A brief reprieve from winter,

Gray and damp and cold.

A glimpse of summer past

and yet to come.

A star whose radiant beams

all warmth hails from.

Granting life to earthlings far away,

Yet close at hand this January day.

Warmth and light and hope and gentle bliss

Soft unexpected winter sunshine kiss.

“The Passion of Poets”

Selecting words like oranges

From a vendor on the street.

Arranging them in rhythms

Like the sound of passing feet.

Collecting paper flower boquets

In arms that open wide.

Mirroring emotions

Impossible to hide.

Painting watercolor images

Capturing the sound.

Immortalizing moments

Lying silent on the ground.

“Bay Dreams”

White crayon strokes across the sky

Sky writing, lingering high.

The heavy scent of evening musk,

Daylight fading into dusk.

A sequined canopy of stars,

The distant hum of passing cars.

Moonbeam shadows growing small,

Fog descends, eclipsing all.

“911 Remembered . . .

Six Month Later”

When I needed you most beside me,

You were nowhere to be found.

When I needed you there to guide me,

As the sky came crashing down.

When I needed your arms around me

And I needed your strength to lean on,

When I needed your eyes

And I needed your smile

And I needed your love . . .

You were gone.

When one tower fell

Tower two came crashing to its knees,

As if the sight of one standing alone

Was more than this world needs.

But now you are gone

And I’m standing on . . .

It just doesn’t seem fair.

When the sun hid its face

And I needed your touch . . .

You’re not here.
